Today, 23 juniors stepped over the threshold, which is a fantastic and encouraging number for us. Among the new visitors were Thomas, Oscar T, and David; we sincerely hope they enjoyed their time with us and found the experience rewarding. We warmly welcome them to come back again for future visits.

My sincere thanks extend to the dedicated tutors Jon Catchpole, Samuel Gorsuch, and John Heath, without whose invaluable help and support the club simply would not be able to move forward and continue growing as it has.

Jon’s Advance All-Play-All League

Wyatt 0-1 Miles = Wyatt made a few mistakes and Miles won comfortably.

Kieran drew with Jonathan after being introduced to playing the French Defence, needs a little more practice with this opening, but a good start.

Kieran 1- 0 Miles = A good attempt by Miles who is new to the class, Kieran had the game well under control though.

Wyatt 0-1 Samuel = A few chances given by Samuel who then gave an instruction on how to finish a game.

Wyatt 1-0 Jonathan = Less mistakes from Wyatt this time, taking chances offered to win in the end.

With only a few weeks in, Kieran leads the way:-

White to Move and Win!

Ladder Results and Positions for Intermediates and Beginners

Lots of games going on all around, hopefully I managed to keep up and get all the results. 3 points for a win, 2 for a draw and 1 point for taking part!

Big wins today for Oscar, Rowan, Michael, Thomas, Lewis, Fin, Zayd, Miles, Kieran, Wyatt, and Michal, who all performed exceptionally well. Each of these individuals showed great skill and determination, contributing to their well-deserved victories.

The Beginners Table now reflects the exceptionally talented Zayd confidently leading the way, showcasing impressive skills and strategy. Fin and Michael are putting forth their best efforts to keep pace and stay in close contention, despite having games in hand that could potentially change the standings.

The Intermediates Table clearly demonstrates that Miles is a very strong player within this group and would greatly benefit from being given a leg up into the advanced section, where his skills could be better challenged and developed. Today he took that opportunity to sample what the advance class can offer.

Meanwhile, Lewis continues to impress by consistently winning games using his effective scholars mate tactics, which has allowed him to maintain his solid position in second place. New member Oscar T shows great promise which is why he’s been placed into this table.

The current standings now look like this:-

With another Bank Holiday coming up next weekend, we might be a little short on members as a result, but rest assured, the TEAM will definitely be here ready and eager to welcome each and every one of you.
