During the lesson on the Pin, it was mentioned that the skewer was a reversed pin, so what do we mean by that, well:-

A skewer is a chess tactic where in a line of attack the more important piece is in FRONT of the attack and the secondary piece is behind. Here, if White plays Rook to e1 check, the King can move out of check and the Rook captures the Queen, which should then be an easy win for White.

Now a PIN is like this:-

In this position, if White plays rook to e1, the Queen can not move out of the way as it’s pinned, so is forced to take the Rook with check, if King takes Queen, the game is a draw. If the Queen doesn’t take the Rook, then White could take the Queen and possibly go on to win.

Bishop on e2 (worth 3 points) moves to d3 and skewers both Rooks (worth 5 points each) winning at least one of them

As long as the attacking piece is worth less than the target it’s a good skewer

Puzzle time:-

Question 1) White to move, where is the skewer?

Question 2) Black to move, where is the Skewer?

Question 3) White to move, find the skewer

Question 4) A little bit harder but, White to move, find the skewer in 2 moves.
